Brake Issues You Can’t Ignore

When was the last time your brakes were inspected? Can you even remember? Most auto technicians recommend having your car’s brakes serviced at least twice a year, so if it has been longer than six months, it is probably time. But even without that timeframe, your car has a few ways of letting you know it is time for a brake service.

Brake Or ABS Light

This is a no-brainer. If the brake or ABS light is activated on your dash, it is your car telling you there is a problem with your braking system. This warning can indicate a serious, dangerous issue, or simply the start of one, so if you see it come on, stay on, or flash, then it is time to have a brake service.

Squealing Or Grinding

This is a big indicator that your brakes need service. Squealing or grinding noises when the brakes are in use indicate that your brake pads or shoes have become dangerously worn. These pieces are designed to wear out and protect the permanent parts of the braking system, so when they begin to make noise, they are alerting you that they have become worn and need replacement.

Shaking Or Squishy Brake Pedal

If your brake pedal feels loose, shaky, or squishy when you use it, this is the final sign that your brakes need service. These problems all precede complete brake failure, and that could mean injury or even death. Again, if you’ve noticed any of these signs, it is time for a brake service.

Make An Appointment

Don’t let brake problems go for too long without remedy. A quick brake service will give you peace of mind that your brakes will have the stopping power to keep you safe. All you have to do is make an appointment!
